Highlights

  • Two nights in Bakuriani at 1,700 m, with a full day in between that has no road transfer and no packing.
  • A day on the Georgian Military Road: Ananuri Fortress, Gudauri at about 2,200 m and, above Stepantsminda, the view from Gergeti Trinity Church towards Mount Kazbek. A shorter version turns back at Gudauri.
  • A private vehicle with a local driver, reserved for your family from airport to airport; mountain roads are driven in daylight.
  • Two nights in Batumi on the Black Sea: the Botanical Garden, the seafront Boulevard, and Kutaisi Street, home to both the Orta Jame mosque and a restaurant listed on the Zabihah halal directory.
  • A return day you can shape: by default a direct drive back to Tbilisi (357 km, about 6 to 6½ hours in the vehicle). Prometheus Cave or Martvili Canyon can be added on the way, and we tell you the full hours before you choose.
  • Before you fly: a one-page entry checklist for each traveller’s nationality and residence permit, and a check of your insurance policy against Georgia’s entry rule (in English or Georgian, cover of at least GEL 30,000).

Who it suits

Families from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE travelling as a party of 5 to 8 in one private vehicle during the summer school holidays. The route covers about 1,200 km by road and has three long road days (about 6 to 7 hours in the vehicle on each, with stops), so it suits families who are comfortable with that. If you travel with very young children or elderly parents, ask us about the shorter Kazbegi day described on day 2 and the return options on day 7. When you enquire, please tell us the nationality of every traveller, including any household staff travelling with you, and the expiry date of each GCC residence permit: the entry rules differ by nationality (see Entry).

Season notes

Read this note in fullHide the details

We offer this route for arrivals from mid-July to the end of August. Tbilisi is warm at that time (the July average is about 25°C, and afternoons are hotter); the cooler air is in the mountains, at Bakuriani (1,700 m) and Gudauri (about 2,200 m). In 2026 the operator, Mountain Trails Agency, opened the summer cable cars on 6 July in Bakuriani and on 18 July in Gudauri. When we checked on 6 October 2026 the 2027 dates had not been announced, so cable-car rides are confirmed once the operator publishes them. Batumi gets frequent rain, summer included, so each Batumi day has an indoor plan. July and August are peak weeks for hotels, so rooms for a family of 5 to 8 need to be requested early.

Day by day

Distances are by road. Driving times are planning figures and change with traffic, weather and stops. For each day we say what we do if a road or a site is closed.

Road distances are estimates read from OpenStreetMap road data with two public route planners on 6 October 2026; no stretch has been driven and timed by our team yet. Where a stop says nothing about booking, none is needed.

We meet you at Tbilisi International Airport and drive you to your hotel, about half an hour away. The rest of the day is kept light after the flight. If you reach the hotel by about 18:00, we walk with you through Rike Park and across the Bridge of Peace, and those who wish can take the short cable-car ride up to the Narikala viewpoint. Dinner is at a halal restaurant that we name in your itinerary.

    Stops

      Opening and closures
Opens at 10:00 and runs late in summer (reported until 24:00). It stops for technical maintenance on days announced at short notice. Narikala Fortress is under restoration; access to the walls is not verified.

Show the day in fullHide the details

We leave Tbilisi by 08:00 so that the mountain road is driven in daylight both ways. We stop at Ananuri Fortress, climb to Gudauri at about 2,200 m, cross the Jvari Pass and come down to Stepantsminda, the town also known as Kazbegi. From the town a local vehicle takes you up to Gergeti Trinity Church for the view towards Mount Kazbek. This is a long day: 306 km and about 6½ to 7 hours in the vehicle, with the outward drive broken into legs of about an hour and a half or less. We keep it as a day trip so that your family does not change hotels for a single night in a mountain town where we have not been able to confirm a halal restaurant or a mosque. Families with small children or elderly parents can take the shorter version that turns back at Gudauri (244 km, about 5½ hours).

    Stops

    • Ananuri Fortress

A fortress beside the Military Road, 64 km from Tbilisi, and the first stop to stretch your legs.

      Time there
      about 30–40 minutes
      Opening and closures
Opening hours are not published on an official page; we confirm before departure.
    • Gudauri

Mountain resort at about 2,200 m: a viewpoint stop and lunch, with the cable cars as an optional ride when the summer season is open. The upper lifts go above 3,000 m; guests with heart or lung conditions should stay at resort level.

      Time there
      about 1–1½ hours with lunch
      Opening and closures
Seasonal: in 2026 the summer cable cars ran daily 11:00–17:00 from 18 July (operator notice). The 2027 dates are not announced.
      Booking
Lunch needs advance arrangement and is confirmed before departure; we have not yet confirmed a halal restaurant that is open in Gudauri in summer. The cable-car pass is bought at the resort ticket office (a physical card).
    • Gergeti Trinity Church, Stepantsminda

A hilltop church at 2,200 m facing Mount Kazbek, reached from the town by local vehicle; going inside is your choice.

      Time there
about 1–1½ hours including the drive up and down
      Opening and closures
Church opening hours are not published on an official page. 16 July (the Gergetoba festival) is crowded.

Local vehicle arranged by us for the day

If a road or a site is closed

If heavy rain or a landslide closes the road beyond Gudauri, we turn back at Gudauri. If the road is closed lower down, the day is spent in and around Tbilisi instead: Mtskheta, 26 km away, and Mtatsminda Park. Low cloud can hide Mount Kazbek on any day; the drive and the stops go ahead as planned.

The morning belongs to Old Tbilisi: the sulphur-bath quarter of Abanotubani, the Juma Mosque and the lanes below Narikala, on foot and at an easy pace. After an early lunch we drive west to Borjomi (159 km, about 3 hours with a break) and walk in the Central Park of this spa town. The last 30 km climb to Bakuriani at 1,700 m, where the air is cooler than in Tbilisi, and we arrive before dark. Dinner is arranged in advance through the hotel, because we have not been able to verify a halal restaurant in Bakuriani.

    Stops

    • Old Tbilisi: Abanotubani, Juma Mosque and the lanes below Narikala

A morning walk through the sulphur-bath quarter and the old lanes, with time at the Juma Mosque.

      Time there
      about 2–2½ hours
    • Borjomi Central Park

The mineral-water park of the spa town of Borjomi: a walk to break the drive.

      Time there
      about 1–1¼ hours
      Opening and closures
Opening hours and entry fee are not verified from an official source (secondary sources say daily 09:00–22:00); we confirm before departure.

If a road or a site is closed

In rain we shorten the Borjomi stop and continue to the hotel. If day 3 is a Friday, we leave Tbilisi after the Friday prayer at the Juma Mosque and keep the Borjomi stop short, so that the mountain road is still driven in daylight. For trips arriving on or after 20 August, when the evenings are shorter, a Friday on day 3 means that lunch is a simple meal on the road and the Borjomi stop is skipped or moved to day 4.

No packing and no long drive today. Late in the morning we ride the Didveli cable cars for the mountain view and a walk at the top; in the 2026 summer season they ran every day from 11:00 to 18:00. The afternoon is free for the resort park, the children’s play areas or simply the hotel. We have not found a mosque in Bakuriani, so prayers are in your rooms: we give you the qibla direction and the day’s prayer times. Lunch and dinner are arranged in advance and confirmed to you before you travel.

      Opening and closures
Seasonal: in 2026 the summer season ran daily 11:00–18:00 from 6 July (operator notice; passes issued until 17:30). The 2027 dates are not announced. The operator posts daily lift status on its social pages.
      Booking
Pass bought at the resort ticket office (physical MultiCard); no advance booking
    • Bakuriani resort centre and children’s play areas

Free time in the resort: the park, the children’s rides and an easy walk around the village.

      Time there
      flexible
      Opening and closures
Opening hours of the children’s parks are not verified; we confirm before departure.

If a road or a site is closed

If the cable cars are not running, because of weather or because the operator has not yet opened the summer season, the day becomes a resort day on foot, or a short drive down to Borjomi (30 km, 45 minutes to 1 hour each way) for its park. In rain we use the hotel’s indoor facilities, which depend on the hotel booked.

Today we cross from the mountains to the sea: 291 km and about 6 hours in the vehicle, one of the three long days of the route. We leave Bakuriani after breakfast, come down to Borjomi and join the main east–west road. Lunch is a one-hour stop about halfway, near Kutaisi, so the drive falls into two legs of roughly three hours. We do not break this journey overnight in the standard itinerary, because that would mean one more hotel change and a night taken from the mountains or the sea; an extra night near Kutaisi can be added if you prefer. We reach Batumi in the late afternoon, with time for a walk on the seafront Boulevard. Dinner is on Kutaisi Street, the street of the Orta Jame mosque, at a restaurant listed on the Zabihah halal directory.

    Stops

    • Batumi Boulevard

An evening walk on the seafront promenade after the drive.

      Time there
      about 1 hour
    • Kutaisi Street: Orta Jame Mosque and dinner

The street of Batumi’s mosque, for prayer and then dinner at a restaurant on the same street that is listed on the Zabihah halal directory.

If a road or a site is closed

Rain does not change today’s drive; the Boulevard walk moves to tomorrow. If your family prefers to break this journey, we can add a night near Kutaisi, which makes the trip 8 nights; ask us for that quotation when you book.

A slower day after yesterday’s drive. In the morning we visit the Botanical Garden at the Green Cape, 9 km from the centre, then return to town for lunch on Kutaisi Street. The afternoon is yours: the beach and the Boulevard, the Argo cable car for a view over the city, or the dolphin show for the children. If today is a Friday, we plan the day around the Friday prayer at the Orta Jame mosque and go early, because the mosque fills beyond its capacity. Batumi gets frequent rain even in summer, so the indoor options below are kept ready.

    Stops

    • Batumi Botanical Garden

A 111-hectare garden on the coast at the Green Cape, 9 km from the centre: a morning walk before the day warms up.

Opening hours are not verified from an official source (secondary sources say 09:00–19:30 from May to September); we confirm before departure.
      Booking

    • Batumi Boulevard and beach

Free time by the sea; in summer the Boulevard runs an adapted beach with access for wheelchair users.

      Time there
      flexible
      Opening and closures
      Beach services are seasonal (summer).
    • Batumi Dolphinarium (optional)

A dolphin show for the children.

      Time there
      about 1–1½ hours
      Opening and closures
No show on Mondays. On 6 October 2026 the official site listed one show a day, at 16:00, lasting about 35 minutes; summer show times are confirmed before departure. The aquarium is open daily except on official holidays (28 August is one) and closes for a midday break.
      Booking
Tickets online or at the box office (open 10:00–18:00); we reserve ahead in July and August

      as you need
      Booking
No booking; the women’s prayer space is to be confirmed before departure

If a road or a site is closed

In rain: the dolphinarium and its aquarium, a shopping mall, or the hotel’s indoor facilities; the Botanical Garden moves to the first dry half-day. If day 6 is a Monday there is no dolphin show, and on 28 August (an official holiday) the aquarium is closed; on those days we use the other indoor options. If the sea is rough, the Boulevard walk remains and swimming is left out.

Show the day in fullHide the details

The return to Tbilisi is a direct drive on the main east–west highway: 357 km and about 6 to 6½ hours in the vehicle, the last of the three long days. We leave Batumi after breakfast, by 09:00. Lunch is a one-hour stop near Kutaisi, about three hours into the drive; the second leg, over the Rikoti Pass, takes about 3½ hours with one rest stop. The Rikoti Pass section is driven in daylight, and we reach Tbilisi in the late afternoon, which leaves the evening free before your flight home. Breaking this drive overnight would add an eighth night to the trip, so we keep it as one day and keep sightseeing off it in the standard itinerary: with a cave or canyon visit it becomes a day of 8 hours or more in the vehicle on the evening before you fly. Families who want that visit can add it, and families who want a shorter day can take the train or the extra night; the four options are set out below.

    Stops

    • Lunch stop on the motorway near Kutaisi

A one-hour break about three hours into the drive.

      Time there
      about 1 hour
      Booking
Restaurant arranged in advance and confirmed before departure; we have not yet verified a halal restaurant on this section
    • Rest stop on the second leg

A short break on the leg over the Rikoti Pass, which takes about 3½ hours to Tbilisi.

      Time there
      about 15–20 minutes
    • Prometheus Cave (option 1, chosen when you book)

Optional add-on, not in the standard day

A guided underground walk of about one hour and 1,420 m through six halls; a short boat section is an extra when the water level allows. With the cave, the day is 410 km and about 8 hours in the vehicle.

      Time there
about 1½ to 2 hours including tickets and waiting in July and August
      Opening and closures
Open every day, 10:00–17:00 (Agency of Protected Areas fee page, checked 2026-10-06). Boats stop when the water level rises. Tickets are not refundable.
      Booking
Tickets at the visitor centre; for July and August we ask about the site’s paid fast-track service to shorten the queue
    • Martvili Canyon (option 2, instead of the cave)

Optional add-on, not in the standard day

A 700 m stone-paved loop with a short boat ride in which guests help to row; each boat takes 6 people and children must be over 1 m tall. With the canyon, the day is 415 km and about 8½ hours in the vehicle.

      Time there
      about 1½ hours
      Opening and closures

      Tickets at the visitor centre

Options, chosen when you book. (1) Add Prometheus Cave: the day becomes 410 km and about 8 hours in the vehicle, about 3½ to 4 hours to the cave and then about 4 to 4½ hours from lunch to Tbilisi with one rest stop. We leave by 08:00 (by 07:30 for trips arriving on or after 20 August); the Rikoti Pass section is still driven in daylight, and we reach Tbilisi in the early evening, about 10½ to 11 hours after leaving the hotel. Anyone who finds walking difficult can wait at the visitor centre; if high water stops the boats, the visit is on foot throughout. (2) Add Martvili Canyon instead of the cave: the day becomes 415 km and about 8½ hours in the vehicle in total; we leave by 07:30. Guests help to row the boats, which take 6 people each; children must be over 1 m tall, and the boats do not run in rain. (3) Take the train from Batumi to Tbilisi, about 4 hours, while your vehicle carries the luggage by road; we meet you at Tbilisi station with a second vehicle. Tickets go on sale only a few weeks before travel, so this option is confirmed late. (4) Add a night near Kutaisi, which makes the trip 8 nights and gives time for the cave or the canyon with neither day longer than about 4½ hours in the vehicle; ask us for that quotation when you book. We do not recommend options 1 and 2 for families with very young children or elderly parents.

The morning depends on your flight time. If your flight leaves late in the afternoon or later, there is time for a private family room at a sulphur bathhouse or a walk for gifts, and possibly Mtatsminda Park, which opens late in the morning; with an earlier flight we take you straight to the airport. We drive you to Tbilisi International Airport, about half an hour from the centre, to arrive three hours before departure. Please keep your insurance policy and, for residents, your GCC residence permit with your passport until you have left Georgia; the permit has to be valid on the day you leave as well.

    • Mtatsminda Park (optional, only with a late-afternoon or later flight)

A hilltop amusement park above the city, reached by funicular. It opens late in the morning, so it fits only when your flight leaves late in the afternoon or later.

      Time there
      about 2 hours
      Opening and closures
Opening hours of the rides are not published on the park’s own site; we confirm before departure.

  • Entrance tickets for Borjomi Central Park and Batumi Botanical Garden, the Didveli cable car in Bakuriani when it is operating, and the local vehicle up to Gergeti Trinity Church.
  • A check of your health and accident insurance policy against Georgia’s entry requirement before you fly. If you would like us to arrange a compliant policy in English, we add it to your quotation on request.
  • We arrange meals at the mountain stops in advance and tell you before departure what each kitchen has confirmed about halal preparation. In Tbilisi and Batumi we reserve tables at halal restaurants that we name in your itinerary, with the basis for each (a listing on the Zabihah directory or the restaurant’s own statement).
  • Bottled water and prayer mats in the vehicle, and a daily sheet with prayer times.
  • Before you pay a deposit, a review with you of the entry conditions for each traveller’s nationality and GCC residence permit, and a one-page entry checklist.

What is not included

  • International flights.
  • Lunches and dinners: you pay the restaurant or hotel directly, unless your quotation lists a meal as included.
  • Cable-car rides and shows you choose on the day, paid at the ticket-office price: the Rike–Narikala cable car in Tbilisi, the Gudauri cable cars, and the Argo cable car and the dolphin show in Batumi.
  • The day 7 options (Prometheus Cave, Martvili Canyon, the train, or an extra night near Kutaisi): when you choose one, its tickets and costs are added to your quotation.
  • Adventure activities such as paragliding, rafting and quad bikes are not part of this route.
  • Wine tasting and winery visits are not part of this route.
  • Shopping stops and paid extras are optional and not compulsory; anything of that kind is listed item by item in your quotation.
  • Personal expenses and tips.

The rule in full, with its sourcesHide the details

Citizens of the six GCC states (the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman) enter Georgia without a visa and may stay for up to one full year. Residents of other nationalities who hold a valid visa or residence permit of a GCC state may enter without a Georgian visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, provided that the visa or permit is valid on the day they enter Georgia; please carry it with your passport. There is an exception to check for everyone in your party, household staff included: under an amendment adopted on 17 April 2025, citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda and Yemen may use this exemption only if their GCC visa (which must be a multiple-entry visa) or residence permit has at least one year of validity left on the day they enter Georgia; otherwise they need a Georgian visa obtained before travel. The Embassy of Georgia to the UAE also asks that the visa or permit be valid on the day you leave Georgia and that the passport be valid for at least 90 days. When you book, we ask for each traveller’s nationality and the expiry date of any GCC residence permit, so that this can be checked with you before flights are paid for. Travellers who fit none of these cases should check before booking whether they need a visa, through Georgia’s e-visa portal or the nearest Georgian embassy. Since 1 January 2026 every tourist must also carry health and accident insurance with cover of at least GEL 30,000, in English or Georgian (see Insurance). Visa-free entry does not mean automatic admission: the decision at the border rests with the Georgian Border Police. Checked on 6 October 2026 against the pages of the Consular Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of the Embassy of Georgia to the UAE, and the statement of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs of 24 April 2025.

Insurance

Read this note in fullHide the details

Since 1 January 2026 every tourist entering Georgia has to hold health and accident insurance: cover of at least GEL 30,000, a policy in English or Georgian, valid for the whole stay including the arrival and departure days, shown on paper or on your phone. A policy issued in Arabic alone does not meet the language rule, so please ask your insurer for an English policy or certificate. Send us a copy before you fly and we check the amount, the dates and the language against the rule. If you would like us to arrange a compliant policy, we add it to your quotation on request.

Flights

Read this note in fullHide the details

The trip starts and ends at Tbilisi International Airport (TBS). As of 6 October 2026, according to the airport’s own airline list and flight board, direct flights to Tbilisi from the Gulf are operated by flydubai from Dubai, Air Arabia from Sharjah, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi from Abu Dhabi, flynas from Riyadh and Jeddah, Qatar Airways from Doha, and Jazeera Airways and Kuwait Airways from Kuwait; Gulf Air links Bahrain and Tbilisi on certain days, and some of its flights make a stop on the way. Some of these routes do not run every day, and we have not found a non-stop flight from Muscat. The flight from the UAE takes roughly 3 to 3½ hours; the airline’s booking page gives the exact time. Schedules change with each airline season (the winter season starts on 25 October 2026, and summer 2027 timetables are published later), so please check the route and the days of operation with the airline before you fix your dates. Batumi has had seasonal direct flights from the Gulf in past summers, but the 2027 schedule is not published, so the trip is planned as Tbilisi in and Tbilisi out. International flights are not part of our land quotation; we plan your airport transfers around the flights you book.

Guide and driver

Read this note in fullHide the details

Your driver is a local professional driver and your guide is a certified local guide. Commentary in Arabic can be arranged, subject to the guide’s availability on your dates; we tell you in writing which language is confirmed before you pay a deposit. If an Arabic-speaking guide is not available, the touring days run with an English-speaking local guide. Your quotation states the days on which the guide is with you. If a member of our Dubai team travels with you, that person coordinates the trip and does not act as the guide.

Halal food and prayer

In Tbilisi and Batumi there are restaurants listed as halal; in the mountains halal meals have to be arranged ahead. Georgia has no official register of halal-certified restaurants, so the places we name are either listed on the Zabihah directory or describe themselves as halal, and we tell you which. In Gudauri, Bakuriani, Borjomi and Stepantsminda and on the motorway section near Kutaisi we have not been able to confirm a halal restaurant (a restaurant that describes itself as halal lists a branch in Gudauri, but we have not confirmed that it is open in summer): meals there need advance arrangement and are confirmed to you before departure. Pork is common in Georgian cooking, including some khinkali dumplings, so please ask before ordering outside the restaurants we name. For prayer, the Juma Mosque in Old Tbilisi and the Orta Jame mosque in Batumi hold Friday prayers; the Batumi mosque is small and fills up on Fridays. We have not found a mosque in Bakuriani, Borjomi, Gudauri or Stepantsminda, so prayer mats travel in the vehicle and we stop at prayer times. If you arrive on a Sunday, Friday falls on your full day in Batumi. No wine tasting or winery visit is scheduled on this route.

Where this itinerary does not go

Read this note in fullHide the details

This route does not enter the occupied territories of Georgia, namely Abkhazia (Apkhazeti) and the Tskhinvali region (so-called South Ossetia). On days 3 and 7 the main east–west highway passes near Gori, where it runs close to the occupation line; our vehicles stay on the highway there and make no stops or detours towards it. We do not sell or arrange travel to those territories.

Price

Send us the number of adults and children, your dates, the hotel category you prefer and the nationality of each traveller (with the expiry date of any GCC residence permit), and we reply with a quotation that lists every item, both included and not included.
